PDXPopupCon March 14 & 15, Portland Oregon

PDX Popup Con 2020

Announcing PDX Popup Con 2020!

**UPDATED WITH LINK TO THE REGISTRATION FORM!**

With the last-minute cancellation of Emerald City Comic-Con due to fears of a COVID-19 outbreak, many artists, publishers and exhibitors have been left without an opportunity to share their work and chat with their audience next weekend. Many self-published artists rely on conventions like ECCC as a financial foundation for their year, and income lost from these shows can be devastating. Not to mention the upfront costs of booking travel and hotels, which at this point probably cannot be canceled or refunded.

In an effort to provide PDX-local artists with an alternative, PDXComicArts.com is working with area retailers Books With Pictures, Floating World Comics, Cosmic Monkey Comics, Bridge City Comics, Comics Adventure, and Cloud 9 Comics, to set up a number of pop-up conventions to fill the gap left by ECCC. We’re calling this effort PDX Popup Con (#PDXPopupCon). Held over March 14 and 15th, exhibitors will have a chance to set up for free at participating venues for a 4-hour shift during Saturday and Sunday, to showcase the works they were planning to bring to ECCC. This rotating schedule will provide opportunities to more local creators, and a full schedule of the weekend’s exhibitors will be posted here at PDXComicArts.com.

The way it will work is this: Later this evening we’ll post a sign-up form for interested exhibitors. You’ll be given a choice of the available venues, and the option to choose from four different shifts over the weekend. You’ll select the venues and shifts you’re interested in exhibiting in order of your preference, as many shifts as you like (the number of available shifts will vary by venue). We’ll do some ranked-choice mathemagic on the results, and put together a schedule of exhibitors. Depending on demand, artists may end up with multiple slots at different shops.

Some retailers will also be offering a number of shorter time-slots for creators interested in being available only to sign their work.

Exhibitor space will be the equivalent of a half-table, and will be limited to tables on-hand. Exhibitors will be expected to bring their own Square readers and cash boxes to handle their own retail transactions.

There will be no exhibitor fees and no admission fees for this event. Retailers are participating voluntarily, and this event couldn’t happen without their generous donations of store-space!

More details on the events will be forthcoming, but with such a short timeline, things are going to be moving fast!

Exhibitors and creators interested in taking part, please follow this link to fill out the Registration Form! Submit your info by end-of-day Tuesday, March 10, we’re trying to get the schedule arranged and announced on Wednesday, March 11.

Thanks, and stay tuned for More Info!
