PDXPopupCon March 14 & 15, Portland Oregon

PDXPopupCon Cancelled

Due to mounting concern about the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, PDXPopupCon has decided to reverse its decision from earlier today and to cancel the bulk of its planned events including the exhibitor tables planned at seven different retail locations throughout the city.

While pre-scheduled signings and sales may still occur at various retailers, the central tent-pole event #PDXPopupCon, being organized by PDXComicArts.com will no longer be happening. The site will continue to be updated with details and changes regarding confirmed events.

Again I want to personally thank the retailers of Portland for stepping up and volunteering their space and their time to help organize this event. Books With Pictures, Cosmic Monkey Comics, Floating World Comics, Bridge City Comics, Fallout Comics, Cloud 9 Comics, and Comics Adventure, it was great working with you all, and I hope we can do something great again in the future.

In the meantime I urge everyone to check out efforts like #ECCCOnline and #ComfyCon on twitter to help support those artists displaced by the continued cancellation of events like Emerald City Comic-Con and WonderCon.

Thanks for your patience and support. Stay well, and take care of yourselves.

Greetings to all our Portland peoples, exhibitors, fans and all! This is our latest update regarding this weekend’s events and coronavirus:

We have been watching the global situation surrounding COVID-19 and its local and regional impacts. Current guidance from the state of Oregon bans gatherings over 250, and encourages people in vulnerable populations to avoid all gatherings over 10. We recognize an inherent value to social supports, and we believe that a strong community is our best bet for surviving the coming storm. With that in mind, we will continue as planned with the PDXPopUpCon event.

As previously announced, we will be rigorously maintaining sanitation procedures in our stores and encourage customers to take advantage of hand sanitizer and hand washing where it’s available. In addition, we will be limiting crowds in our spaces to allow customers and staff to maintain the recommended social distancing of three feet between individuals as much as possible.

We recognize that everyone needs to make their own best choices to protect their health and that of their loved ones and, like the state of Oregon, we encourage vulnerable folks to stay home and seek connection through other avenues. We strongly support the efforts of ECCCOnline and encourage people to use and share the tools at that site. (https://www.emeraldcitycomiccon.com/Explore/ECCC-Online/)

This is a tricky balance inside of an evolving situation, and cancellation remains a possibility if guidance from the city or state changes. At the moment, however, we believe that fostering community in small gatherings with safeguards in place is, on balance, the best choice we can make for the lives and livelihoods of the Portland comics community.

Thanks, and take care of yourselves,
